Course Description
The Spring Training sailing course for adults consists of three Saturday classes (6/13,6/20,6/27) and begins with orientation on 6/06/26. Each class will have a classroom session and an on-the-water session. The classroom session covers basic sailing theory and nomenclature, including: parts of a sailboat, rigging, how to make a sailboat sail, and basic knots. The on-the-water sessions provide hands-on experience under the guidance of an instructor and includes rigging and unrigging, trimming sails, the different points of sail, time at the helm, and approaching a mooring and a dock.
The daily schedule is as follows:
9:00am-11:00am Sailing Theory 11:00-11:30am Break 11:30-1:30am On Water Practice 01:30-02:00pm Reflection De-Brief (optional). Sailing is a weather dependent activity. Instructors reserve the rights to change the schedule to accommodate the weather condition. No efforts will be spared to accommodate students' schedules in the event the flow of the day is changed.
Orientation Session
This is an introduction to River Rats and its Adult Sailing Program. We will learn about our facilities, the section of the river where we will be sailing. Students will receive training material (books and handouts). We will discuss the instructors' backgrounds/qualifications as well as the needs, wants and goals of the students. Club member who are not participating in the class, are encouraged to stop by to welcome the participants of the program.

Students must provide their own life jackets for the Saturday on water sessions, wear appropriate attire and suitable footwear for this activity.
